Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Every child possesses the ability to create. Art class is not only a chance to improve individual art skills, but an opportunity to allow students to express themselves in a creative environment.
In art class the students have the chance to work with several types of media, subject matters, and historical eras. Every grade is exposed to sculpture, painting, printmaking, fibers (types of weaving), and drawing. They are challenged in all aspects of design and exercise all of the different elements of art. Every class is also exposed to a variety of different art throughout history and students are expected to respond through art. Students also enhance their art appreciation skills by learning how to talk about their personal art and the art of others.
